Reply from Jack Layton

CREATE received the following letter from Jack Layton on March 10:
----

"Thank you for copying me on your letter to the Prime Minister regarding
CREATE's proposal for a national research laboratory. I believe that
this plan deserves serious consideration by the government and has the
potential to serve Canada's medical isotope and research needs for the
future.

In the context of a vacuum of leadership from the federal government,
the efforts of the Chalk River workers to propose solutions are
laudable. A national research laboratory could play an important role in
a wide range of applications including the safe management of nuclear
sites.

Again, I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this issue.
Please be assured that my New Democrat colleagues and I will press the
Harper government to take this proposal seriously and work to correct
the uncertainty they have created for Canada's science and research
workers. All the best.

Sincerely,

Jack Layton, MP (Toronto-Danforth)
Leader, Canada's New Democrats"
